Cervoz has launched the MEC-LAN-2001-SFP and MEC-LAN-2002-SFP, two M.2 SFP Ethernet expansion modules built to provide Gigabit Ethernet connectivity over extended distances, making them ideal for industrial and robotics applications. Powered by the Intel i210-IS controller and compliant with IEEE 802.3x and 802.3z, these modules offer robust and reliable network performance in complex, large-scale environments.
While SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) modules are often associated with high-speed connections beyond 10 Gbps, their real strength lies in transmitting data over several kilometers, vastly outperforming standard RJ45 Ethernet cables, which are typically limited to 100 meters. This makes the Cervoz M.2 modules an excellent choice for logistics centers, smart factories, transport hubs, and energy facilities, where Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) and other smart devices operate over large areas.

Flexible Integration for Embedded Systems
These M.2 SFP Ethernet modules are compatible with mini
PCs, industrial systems, single-board computers, and multimedia devices
equipped with M.2 B or M key slots with PCIe signaling. The MEC
daughterboard, which carries one or two SFP cages, connects to the main M.2
card and supports four mounting options thanks to the MECFIX system:
- Standard
PCI/PCIe bracket
- Low-profile
PCI/PCIe bracket
- Internal
mounting from various positions
- Custom
front/rear panel fitting based on the MEC board’s size
The kit includes:

Driver Support & Use Case Considerations
Drivers are currently available for Windows 7 through 11.
There’s no official Linux support at this time, mirroring the situation
with Cervoz’s previously released M.2 to 2.5GbE RJ45 module.
Though at first it may seem odd to use long Ethernet cables
with mobile robots, these modules are likely intended for the broader
infrastructure that supports robotics—such as controllers, gateways, and
networked sensors distributed across large-scale facilities.
Comparable solutions include the LR-Link LRES2212PF-SFP,
featuring Intel i210 and dual SFP cages, available online for around $69.99.
While 10GbE M.2 SFP modules like the SFF-8087 exist, they tend to be
bulkier and require active cooling due to higher power draw. A lower-speed
option is also available from Lantronix: the NM2-FXS-2230-SFP-201
offers 100Mbps connectivity for less demanding applications.
Cervoz has not disclosed the pricing for these new modules but does offer a 3-year warranty. Additional product information and technical resources are available on their official product pages.
